PRESS CONFERENCE IN SARAJEVO FOR THE “YEAR OF THE DISABLED SPORTS" IN BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA 2017

13.12.2016

Once again I travel to Sarajevo for a 2-day visit, this time as a patron of an initiative implemented by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany that supports children with disabilities in the field of sport in Bosnia-Herzegovina. In the coming year together we wish to bring more awareness and attention onto the issue of people with disabilities. The Katarina Witt foundation is strongly involved with children with physical disabilities and especially supports sports projects. Therefore I am strongly committed to help.

The warm hospitality of the people in Sarajevo always touches me anew.

photo 2: Very warmly I am welcomed by German ambassador Christiane Hohmann und secretary general of the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina Said Fazlagic. And Vučko is still passionately calling to the world: „Sarajevooooooooooooo“

photo 3: In a first meeting we speak with disabled children and representatives of the German embassy about individual problems and how we can help solving them. I was very impressed by the energy of the children and the strenuous effort of their parents, caretakers, teachers and coaches.

photo 4: The Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegowina used the opportunity to interview me for a documentation about the Olympic Winter Games in Sarajevo in 1984 for tv and the museum. I cannot deny that there was one or the other little teardrop involved.
